Paid TEFL Myanmar Internship

Myanmar stirs up images of wild, sun-soaked valleys dotted with ancient temples, delicate tea leaves making their way to both your mug and plate, and monks in ruby-robes with twinkling eyes.

While teaching English in Myanmar, however, the sights will quickly take a backseat to the meaningful work you do as an ESL teacher.

Known throughout Asia as a confluence of Thai, Indian, and Chinese cultures, the Burmese will dazzle you not only with their hospitality and work ethic, but also with their English teaching job prospects.

Your Teaching Experience

Whether you start early or mid-year, you’ll hit the ground running with a comprehensive five day teacher’s orientation in Yangon. There, you’ll learn how to move with grace through this new culture—while on the job with colleagues and students or bargaining for teak in the local market.

Expect to teach ~25 hours weekly with evenings and weekend commitment in the mix. Your mission is to improve students’ reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, and you’ll have ~15 hours weekly to prepare your future lessons and activities.

Past placements have been located in Yangon, Mandalay, and Pyin Oo Lwi at language institutes and private schools. This is a great fit for TEFL teachers who adore working with younger students, as most placements match teachers with students aged three to 16.

Don’t worry, novice monk—you’re not on your own. Your co-teachers will help along the way!

Cultural Excursions

Wondering what you’re going to do with your precious free time? We’re glad you asked! We know your adventure bucket list is long, but make sure you tack these recommendations from past TEFL interns in Myanmar towards the top!

Bagan is home to the largest—and densest—concentration of Buddhist temples, pagodas, & ruins worldwide. A hot air balloon ride provides a killer vantage point!

Choose your own adventure when you order Burmese curry, which is accompanied by a succession of side dishes like rice, tart salad, soup, veggies, dips, & more.

When the full moon of the 7th month shines bright, experience the exuberant glory of a Thadingyut festival celebration with lights, firecrackers, & candles.
